Universities and education in Tajikistan: a guide to their websites

A guide to the websites of universities, schools, courses and learning platforms in Tajikistan: where to explore programmes, prepare for entrance tests and pick language or IT courses.

Choosing a university, a course or test preparation today usually starts with an institution's website. This review brings together the websites of universities, colleges, schools, training centres and educational platforms in Tajikistan and explains what information you can find on each of them.

Universities and academies

A university's official site is the first place an applicant should look. The site of Khujand State University named after Bobojon Gafurov lists degree programmes and covers master's and PhD studies and the dormitory. The Tajik Agrarian University named after Shirinsho Shotemur describes its faculties, programmes and distance learning in three languages. The Avicenna Tajik State Medical University site includes faculties and departments, a scientific library and an education portal.

Information on leadership, structure and academic councils is published by Tajik National University, the Russian-Tajik (Slavonic) University, the Dushanbe branch of Lomonosov Moscow State University, the Technological University of Tajikistan (including accreditation details) and Kulob State University named after Abuabdullohi Rudaki. The Tajik State University of Finance and Economics posts its development strategy and an academic journal on finance and economics, while the Tajik State Pedagogical University offers materials on teacher training.

Information for applicants and lists of specialties are also published by the Tajik State University of Law, Business and Politics, with details on faculties, news and announcements, and by Dangara State University, whose site includes regulatory documents and information on departments and admission. The Tajik State University of Commerce describes its structure, studies and research. The site of the Tajik Technical University named after Academician M.S. Osimi serves as a login point to the university's information system, while the TTU Polytechnic Institute in Khujand has sections for staff, students, graduates and distance learning.

Specialised education is represented by the Tourism Academy, with information on internships and graduate employment, the Talabkhuja Sattorov National Conservatory, with a section for applicants, the Islamic Institute named after Imam Azam Abu Hanifa and the Academy of Public Administration under the President, which publishes dissertation defence announcements. Among colleges, the Republican College of Folk Crafts in Istaravshan offers specialities ranging from oriental miniature and art ceramics to jewellery making and national clothing design, and the site of the Dushanbe Engineering and Pedagogical College presents its history, structure, studies and admission.

Admission preparation and career guidance

Centralised entrance exams are run by the National Testing Center under the President of Tajikistan, whose official site publishes news and information about the centre. Those preparing for the tests will find TajTest useful: subject and cluster tests, final practice exams and information about universities. Online practice tests for the National Testing Center exams, along with study materials on various subjects, are also available on the Tajik-language site Donishju. Kasbnamo offers a short test based on the National Testing Centre cluster system that helps match fields, specialities and universities. For those considering study abroad, Multikid Education Consulting describes higher education options, including in Poland, the UK and Germany, and accepts requests for a free consultation. Students looking for an internship can check IAESTE Tajikistan, the national committee of the International Association for the Exchange of Students for Technical Experience, which publishes internship offers.

Courses, IT schools and languages

For children in Dushanbe there are KIBERone, an IT school for ages 6–14 with courses in artificial intelligence, virtual reality and 3D modelling, and RENDERIA, a digital arts school for children aged 8–15. Electicode gives school students free lessons, problems and contests in computer science in Tajik, and the Children and Youth Centre of Dushanbe publishes its list of clubs and class schedules.

Adults may consider the online platform BeeKhon with practical assignments and instructor support, the free IT courses of OMUHTAN.TJ in Bokhtar (IT literacy, freelancing, graphic design, AI), the Oson SMM academy for small and medium businesses with a free trial lesson, and the AtS business training centre. Programming is also taught in Dushanbe: Kavsar Academy offers Frontend and Backend courses as well as foreign languages, and Technohub teaches programming, IT and design and helps with CVs and job interviews. On the GeekBrains Tajikistan online platform you can choose courses in programming, analytics, design, marketing and other fields. Short-term vocational training for the public is provided by the state Adult Education Center of Tajikistan, whose site lists its branches and the trades taught.

Foreign languages are offered by Zabonomuz, with English, German, Russian and Chinese, a placement test and language clubs, and by Samand Language Center, with English courses and sign-up for a first lesson. Media professionals can look at the trainings and master classes of the Media Academy of Tajikistan, and restaurateurs at a one-day business workshop in Dushanbe.

Schools

Among schools, the D.I. Mendeleev Russian-Tajik School in Tursunzade runs its own site with admission rules, the timetable and learning materials. Dushanbe International School covers its mission and history, academic programme, admissions policies, school calendar and student life. Teachers, parents and students in Dushanbe can use eDonish, an electronic school diary with web and mobile apps.

Libraries and public education

The electronic library of the Ministry of Education and Science lets registered users read books, listen to audiobooks and watch video lessons, while the National Library of Tajikistan publishes new acquisitions, an electronic library and reader registration rules. The Marifati Huquqi portal collects materials on human rights in Tajik along with topic tests. The Tajik-language site Donish publishes educational, family and Islamic content. Those keen on the exact and natural sciences should follow the site of the Ilm – Furughi Ma'rifat contest, with its schedule, results and participant guidelines.

For professionals in the sector there is LEG.TJ, an education coordination platform that brings together government, donors and development partners to plan and track support for the sector; the site presents stakeholders, projects, events and resources.

How to choose

Among private institutions there are MDIS Dushanbe, which offers UK degrees (bachelor's programmes in information technology, cyber security and other fields, a foundation year, English courses), and the private IMKON School for grades 1–7, teaching in Russian and English under the Cambridge International Education programme.

An applicant should start with the university's official site: check the list of programmes, the admissions section and dormitory information, then practise on test preparation platforms. When choosing courses, look at the students' age, the programme, the schedule and whether a trial lesson is available.

Research institutes and journals are now collected in the Science & research section — for example, the Institute of Geology, Earthquake Engineering and Seismology, the Research Institute of Finance and the journal Avji Zuhal; they are covered in a separate review. The Centre for Islamic Studies belongs to the Religion section (see the review), and the Early Childhood Development project to Family & kids (see the review).
