When planning a trip around Tajikistan or abroad from it, much can be done online: choosing a tour, booking accommodation, finding flights and checking train timetables. Below is a selection of websites that help with this, grouped by type of service. They differ in format: some sell ready-made tours, others help you search and compare, and others provide official reference information.
National tourism portal
A good starting point for the overall picture is Travel Tajikistan, the national tourism portal of Tajikistan. It covers types of tourism and routes by region, collects tour packages and events, and has information on transport, accommodation and travel agencies.
The official state body for tourism is the Committee for Tourism Development under the Government of Tajikistan. Its website publishes news, tourism legislation and visa information.
Tour operators and travel projects
If you want the route, transport and paperwork arranged for you, start with tour operators. Bunyod-Tour organises tours across Tajikistan and Central Asia: on its site you can choose and book trips to Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Turkmenistan. Discover Central Asia Tours specialises in journeys along the Great Silk Road and helps with official permits and visas, as well as transport. Visit Tajikistan focuses on active holidays: mountain tours, ecotourism and adventure routes to the Pamirs, the Fann Mountains and Iskanderkul; it also has a section on partnership for tour operators.
Dushanbe-based travel company Ion Travel helps you pick tours and hotels, explains visa support, publishes articles and country guides and offers the Ionpriority bonus card. The iontravel project Open Tajikistan is dedicated to travel within the country, with tours and activities, information for tourists and a list of guides.
The travel company Voyage Tour Tajikistan helps you pick tours and book hotels and air tickets, and also publishes news. Transavia Express is a travel company offering tours, transfers and air tickets.
Hotels, sanatoriums and country houses
People look for accommodation in different ways: some book a room in the city, some travel for treatment, and some rent a country house for a getaway with a large group. On the sites below you can check rooms, prices and booking terms in advance.
Armon Apart Hotel in Khujand offers apartments with online search and booking, and its site lists rooms and rates; the hotel also runs a yoga studio with wellness courses. For treatment and a stay by the water, consider Sohil Sanatorium on the shore of the Kairakkum Sea: its site describes treatments and procedures, rooms and prices, and offers room search and online booking.
If you want to spend a weekend outside the city, Bronla.tj helps you rent a country house or holiday place in Varzob, Romit, Norak and other recreation areas. You can choose a region, dates and guest type, find an option for a family, friends or corporate getaway, and view prices.
In Dushanbe itself, on Saadi Sherozi Avenue, stands the five-star Kangurt Grand Hotel: its official site lists rooms, services, special offers and a loyalty programme, and allows online booking.
Flight and train tickets
Aviasales.tj is a flight search service that compares offers from airlines and agencies and helps you find cheap options. Keep in mind that the service does not sell tickets itself; it shows offers from other sellers. Hotel search is available there too. It is worth checking tickets and timetables in advance, especially if your trip falls on holidays or the peak vacation season.
You can also buy tickets directly from the carrier. Somon Air is Tajikistan's national airline, flying since 2008 and a member of IATA; its site offers ticket booking, flight schedules, online check-in and passenger information. The online service Fly.tj sells tickets from various airlines with payment by card or e-wallet, and also offers tours in Tajikistan and business deals.
Agencies sell air tickets too: Bactrian in Khujand lists flights departing from Dushanbe, Khujand and Tashkent, including connecting routes worldwide, and the Air Communications Agency (AVS) helps you find tickets to popular destinations. If you fly via the south of the country, the website of Kulob International Airport is useful, with departures and arrivals boards, passenger information and ticket, hotel and taxi booking services.
Train timetables, travel rules and baggage and animal transport regulations are published by the Tajik Railway (state enterprise Rohi Ohani Tojikiston).
How to plan your trip
- For trips to the mountains and the Pamirs, start with tour operators: they describe routes and help with permits and visas.
- For independent travel, compare flights in a search service, confirm the schedule on the airline's or airport's website and check train timetables on the railway's official website.
- Choose accommodation by the purpose of your trip: an apart-hotel in the city, a sanatorium for wellness or a country house for the weekend.
- Before booking, confirm prices and terms directly on the website of the chosen hotel or service.
