Culture and arts of Tajikistan online: museums, literature, music and photography
An overview of Tajik culture websites: museums and palaces of culture, poetry portals and e-libraries, music services and a photography club.
Tajikistan's cultural life is increasingly visible online: museums describe their collections and exhibitions, literary publications print poetry and criticism, and music portals collect songs by Tajik performers. This selection presents websites from the "Culture, arts & music" category, grouped by area. It will help you find where to read classical poetry, listen to music or learn about events at cultural institutions.
Museums and cultural institutions
Osorkhonai millii Tojikiston is the official website of the National Museum of Tajikistan. It covers the museum's collections, news and events, and sets out the rules for visitors, which are worth reading before you go.
Qasri jumhuriyavii farhangi Danghara is the website of the state institution "Republican Palace of Culture of Danghara" under the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Tajikistan. It publishes the institution's news, so residents and visitors of Danghara can follow its activities.
Literature, poetry and e-libraries
Persian-Tajik literature is represented online by several projects.
Shoiron is a portal of Tajik and Persian poetry featuring works by classical and contemporary poets. Poems can be searched by poet, theme and even by line, which is handy if you only remember a fragment.
SHOIR.TJ is a literary portal devoted to Persian-Tajik literature. It collects biographies of Tajik and Persian poets and writers, making it a good place to get to know the authors.
Adabiyot va san'at is a publication of the Union of Writers of Tajikistan. The site carries material on literature: poetry, prose, criticism, world literature and other sections.
Merosi niyogon is a popular-science and cultural-educational magazine in Tajik and Russian devoted to historical and cultural heritage.
For reading books, there are e-libraries. Kitobkhon is a Tajik-language library with free access to books, which can be searched by author, section, publisher and year of publication. Ravshanfikr combines an e-library and a magazine in Tajik, offering articles, books, learning materials and videos.
Music portals
Music websites form the largest group in the category.
Ovoz.tj gathers Tajik, Uzbek, Iranian and international songs, music videos, artist biographies and news. Ohang is a portal of Tajik and Uzbek songs where music can be streamed online and downloaded, with tracks grouped by performer.
MP3.TJ is an online music streaming service with sections for new releases, genres, albums, artists, radio and charts. TajMedia lets you listen to and download Tajik songs and also watch online TV and concert recordings. RAP.TJ stands apart as a project about rap music in Tajikistan, running since 2015. On the site you can listen to audio and watch videos by Tajik rappers.
Photography
FOTO.TJ is a Tajik club for photographers and photography enthusiasts. Members publish their work by category, and the site features ratings and a photo of the week, a good way to show your own shots and see what others are doing.
How to use cultural resources
- Check a museum's website before visiting: the National Museum publishes visitor rules and event announcements.
- If you only remember one line of a poem, use the search-by-line feature on Shoiron.
- For biographies of poets and writers, SHOIR.TJ is a good fit; for literary criticism, try Adabiyot va san'at.
- In the Kitobkhon e-library, you can narrow your search by author, publisher and year of publication.
- When choosing a music service, consider the format: some sites let you download tracks, while others focus on online listening, radio and charts.
