Banks and MDOs of Tajikistan: websites on the National Bank list

Websites of banks, microdeposit organizations and microcredit funds licensed by the National Bank of Tajikistan: what services they offer and how to check a licence.

Loans, deposits, bank cards, money transfers — getting to know almost any financial service in Tajikistan now starts with a website. But before you trust an institution with your money, it is worth making sure it is actually allowed to handle it. This review brings together the websites of credit institutions that appear on the National Bank of Tajikistan's official list of licensed credit institutions.

We have grouped them by licence type: banks, microdeposit organizations (MDOs), and microcredit organizations and funds. The licence type hints at what to expect from a site: banks usually offer the widest range of services for individuals and businesses, MDOs most often offer loans and deposits, and microcredit organizations and funds focus on lending.

Banks

The richest websites belong to banks: they describe their retail products in detail and give access to mobile and online services.

Alif brings transfers, deposits, cards, installments and auto finance together in one place, along with real-time exchange rates and an online calculator. Amonatbonk, the people's bank of Tajikistan, serves individuals, legal entities and financial institutions; its site covers loans, cards, deposits, money transfers, utility and treasury services, branch information and the Amonat Mobile app.

Dushanbe City Bank presents bank cards, car loans, mortgages and instalment plans, money transfers, bonuses and a mobile app. On the Imon International site, individuals can apply for an online loan and install the Imonline app, while businesses will find loans, tariffs and corporate services. Spitamen Bank covers cards, loans, deposits, settlement services and internet banking, and publishes tenders and vacancies. Humo offers loans, deposits, Visa cards and money transfers, the Humo Online service, an Islamic window and internet acquiring.

Bank Eskhata and Arvand Bank are headquartered in Khujand. The Eskhata site covers money transfers, deposits and loans, including mortgages and car loans, and lists office and ATM locations; the Arvand site provides information about its services and contacts.

Some banks' websites reflect a particular focus:

  • Tawhidbank — financing, transfers, deposits, Korti Milli cards and online banking;
  • Vasl Bank — international money transfers, the Vasl Pay mobile wallet and online payments;
  • Sanoatsodirotbonk — the bank focuses on supporting local entrepreneurs and developing domestic production;
  • Bank Tejarat — the Dushanbe branch of the Iranian bank Tejarat; the site has information about the branch and its parent bank, financial reports, tariffs and documents.

Several more banks headquartered in Dushanbe provide information about their services and contacts on their websites: Activ Bank, Commercebank of Tajikistan, Freedom Bank Tajikistan, International Bank of Tajikistan, Investment Credit Bank of Tajikistan (ICB) and Orienbank. The Development Bank of Tajikistan, a commercial bank, also publishes information about itself and its services.

MDOs are the largest group in this review. Their websites are usually shorter than banks', but many of them offer calculators, online applications, transfers and internet banking.

Microcredit organizations and funds

This group specialises in lending — for business, agriculture, housing and personal needs.

  • Imon — a microcredit fund from Khujand (not to be confused with Imon International bank): online lending, business loans, financial leasing, mortgages, consumer loans and an Islamic finance window.
  • Rushdi Kuhiston — a microcredit organization: micro-leasing, consumer and business loans, loans for home repair and construction, agricultural loans, loans for tourism and crafts, and its branch network.

  • Nuri Humo — information about its loans, documents and reports.
  • MicroInvest (Dushanbe) and Rushdi Sughd (Khujand) — information about services and contacts.

Online loan applications

Separate from the credit institutions is AION, an online platform for cash loan applications in Dushanbe and Khujand developed by zypl.ai. Through the site you can apply for a loan from banks and MDOs without collateral or certificates. The platform itself is not on the National Bank's list, so check the loan terms on the website of the institution that actually issues it.

How to check that an institution is licensed

The current list of licensed credit institutions is published on the website of the National Bank of Tajikistan, the country's central bank. The site also carries legislation, monetary policy materials and analytical publications. Institutions whose licence has been revoked are listed there separately.

Before you open a deposit, send a transfer or apply for a loan through a website, it is worth taking a few steps:

  • find the institution in the National Bank's current list and make sure it is not among the revoked licences;
  • check that you are on the institution's official website, and never enter card details on unfamiliar pages;
  • see whether the institution publishes its tariffs, financial statements and information on consumer rights;
  • compare the terms of several institutions using the calculators on their sites, and clarify the details at an office.
